Dare I say very beach boys with a dash of Zero Seven (not sure if Kirk Deago would appreciate that), From the initial tunes I’ve heard on various radio shows such as Gilles Peterson, and Sean Rowley’s Joy of Music I’d say it’s my new summer album (knocking Lily Allen swiftly off though that wasn’t that great a task).
Their sounds range from Beach Boys to Herbie Handcock, influences include: America, Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, Brian Eno, Can, Cream, Crosby Stills & Nash, David Bowie, Hall & Oates, Roxy Music, The Beatles, The Byrds, The Doors,Marvin Gaye, Miles Davis, Minnie Riperton, Shuggie Otis, Sly & Family Stone, Smokey Robinson, Steely Dan, Stevie Wonder, Sun Ra, Terry Callier, The Meters, The Roots, Willie Hutch… This list goes on and on and I’d recommend checking out their myspace site for a full breakdown.
I’m sure Mr Rowley would agree, this is a masterful ‘Guilty Pleasure’ for 2006.
