Lily Allen - Samples - where is the sample form? find out here…

Lily’s done it again with her latest single “smile”. Smile features a sample that’s been bugging me for ages (then again every track has got me trying to work out where the samples or influence is from).

So I finally got the 7inch single today only to find it’s a sample of “Free Soul” by the Soul Brothers (written by my all time favourite reggae hero’s Jackie Mittoo and studio one owner and legend Clement Dodd).

I was lucky enough to find a vinyl LP copy of an album “Jamaican memories” released on Trojan records (TJALP014) I dare say I’ll be dropping this mixed up with Lily’s Smile on my next DJ set in the King Charles, Newbury

… More recently I found out the Lily’s track LDN samples the calypso track “Reggae Meringue” by Tommy McCook and The Supersonics
